Bridge Safety Screens at Bridge 3059, Kent Street Deakin

  • Project completion date:November 2011
  • Overall value of project:$0.97m
  • Location:Kent Street, Deakin
  • Client:ACT Procurement & Capital Works

The construction on Kent Street involved the manufacture, delivery and installation of plexiglass bridge safety screens over Adelaide Avenue. Associated works included temporary traffic management and modifications to the bridge including new concrete work and fascia to accept the new screens.

The Kent Street work was significantly different to previous safety screen projects as it incorporated the government’s public art policy. Aesthetics were a priority in the design of the screens for the bridge. The urban art company Thylacine was engaged to create a bold and imaginative look for the works.

This project won two awards in 2012: the CCF Earth Award for project value up to $1 million, and the MBA Civil Award.
